Another Trip to d'Orsay

One of the last times I was there before moving on to Italy:

Octopuses!

Here are some octopus sketches.  Preliminaries for a special project:

More Sketchbook!

This one is going way back, over a year ago, to when I was studying abroad in France and Italy.  There's going to be a lot more where these came from, so I tried to break it up into manageable chunks.  These first few are from the Rodin Museum:

And these are from Musee d'Orsay:

Sketchbook Scans!

I know it's a long time overdue, but at the request of my friends and finally my drawing professor, I'm going to begin scanning my sketchbook.  I'll start off with some of the initial monster designs for the asteroid creature in Spaced Out 3. It's based on a dung beetle:

I wanted the inside of Part 4 to be really gross, so this is my grossout test:

It's based on the REALLY GRAPHIC video of human stomach worms:
And this is a sketch of the layout for Part 3 when the monster was still a little ding beetle-y:

Here's some initial designs for Jet McCloud, before I decided to keep the helmet on:

And here's my designs of the suit (the guy on the left is from Armageddon):

Here's the initial designs for STAN, before he was a nebulous cloud:

"Spaced Out" 3

The gouache wasn't coming out in the newspaper so I decided to try some ink washes instead of colors.  Overall I'm much more pleased with the look of it, and the washes don't compete with the pens nearly as much as the paints did.  Also, typing text is much easier (and looks nicer) than when I handwrite it.  Go figure...

Gotta remember to do those stylistic thick outlines like in the first panel.  It really helps make things stand out.
